About the Author

Shengdar Lee obtained a Bachelor degree in Physics at Nanyang University in Singapore. He then came to study in the United States, earning a Master's degree in Physics from State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduation, he worked in the nuclear energy industry in the United States. Now he lives in San Diego, California.

He has been familiar with both Traditional Chinese Characters and Simplified Chinese Characters for a long time. He later became strongly interested in Chinese etymology and the simplification of Chinese characters. A few years ago he started writing about these subjects. In 2011 he published a book called "Poems for Learning Orthodox and Simplified Chinese Characters - Extension of Chinese-Character Games". In this book, he wrote hundreds of poems to describe the structures of all the more than 500 characters that are involved in the simplification, or the characteristics of their simplification.

In 2013 he published a second book: "Comprehend Chinese-Character Simplification - Learn Traditional Chinese Characters and Simplified Chinese Characters". It has three language versions: English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

In this book, he systematically classified the characters into categories based on their respective simplification characteristics. Then he summarized them in the "General Tables of Simplified Characters" and annotated them with their respective simplification characteristics. These data are presented in tabular form - simple, clear, and easy to understand. In addition, the book also includes the "General Tables of Simplified Characters" in the Appendices. Therefore, it is a complete, logical, and comprehensive book for learning both Traditional and Simplified characters. Furthermore, for the more than two hundred characters that have been combined, numerous vocabularies are listed as examples for each of the characters, and thus illuminating their meanings in great detail. Therefore, it is also a good book for learning Chinese characters.
